What to expect in September

Hoping the late August bite can continue into September!  The early August bite was really scattered due to the extreme late summer heat and repeated afternoon thunderstorms. With the decreases in temperatures and less frequent storms, the bite started to really pick up towards the end of the month.

The Nearshore bite is also starting to heat up with Bull Reds, Flounder, Trout, Sharks and Tarpon still in the area. Additionally, The Pogey pods are starting to show back up around Cumberland while the Mullet are plentiful in the creeks. The inshore bite has been steady, although majority of the Trout and Redfish are running a little small.  For the inshore, charters we mainly fished with TailChaser Jigs ¼ to 1/2 oz and varied body color based on water clarity. For the angler that likes to mix it top water bite has been stellar first thing in the AM and switching to spinner baits as the sun gets up. The flounder bite has been very good and they are still preferring Mud Minnows on Jig heads. The Sheepshead are still in the area and have been pretty active on Jigs and live shrimp.

If the weather cooperates this month you can expect to catch Bullreds, Trout, Redfish, Black Drum, Flounder, Sheepshead and Tarpon.
