Captain Andy Gowen Fishing Report St Mary’s, GA October 2016
If you read my September fishing report, you will notice I wrote about having good fishing trips and people that re-energize fishing for me. Well, October definitely started out with a bang. Fish were very active and we were having very successful trips. Later in the month, the weather didn’t really cooperate with the tropical storm and Hurricane passing through, but at least there were some positives early in the month. A group of good friends came over from Folkston to chase some Bull reds. The wind was suppose to blow out of the Northwest and to our surprise it was actually blowing out of the Northeast. We only had a small window to catch the big ones so we hammered down and ran that Yamaha 250 Sho straight to the fishing hole. The tide was coming in and we had to use 8-10 oz no roll weights to keep the live bait in the spot. This was the first trip we got to showcase the new Fin-Nor tackle. We spooled the Lethal LT 60 with 50Lb braid and 80Lb fluorocarbon leader. If you have never fished with this type of tackle, you are missing out. The ease at which you can cast and reel makes even the novice fisherman feel like a professional. Within a few mins after we got set up, the heavy action rods were bent over to the max. Will Phillips, one of the buds from Folkston, had never caught a Bull Redfish so he got the honors. The pics below will tell the rest of the story.
